With Billy Mehmet and John Sutton both unavailable, and John Baird seeming to have disappeared off of the face of the eart, McKenna has been bench warming in the last few games, usually coming on with a few minutes left to waste time.
It was revealed earlier in the week that the loan move would be delayed until things improved, and it seems they will have improved enough that he won't be needed for the game against Airdrie United next week.
The loan deal is to the end of the season and sees McKenna reunited with former Saints player Mixu Paatelainen, who is Cowdenbeath manager. he was also the coach of Saints under 19 team last season, of which McKenna was a part.
David has scored two goals for the Saints first team, including one on his debut against Ayr United in April 2002. The loan move will allow him to gain vital first team experience, whilst give Cowdenbeath a decent player for their promotion challenge.
