Saints boss Gus MacPherson is keen to keep the veteran hitman at the club for another season, but only if he can prove over the summer that he is fit enough for it. Paatelainen started last season in fine form before picking up a knee injury. He returned to action in late November, but the injury quickly flared up again and he last played against Partick on New Years Day. As a coach he managed to guide the under 19s squad to the SFA Youth Cup final, so he brings more to the club than just a head to aim high balls at.
Partick boss Dick Campbell would like to sign a target man as the Jags prepare for life in the second division, and various reports today claim that Mixu is high on his wanted list. Despite Partick being a division lower than Saints, if a firm offer is made in the next few weeks the big man could choose them over us.
Hopefully Mixu will prove over the summer that he has still got it and will be a Saints player next season.
