The success, secured by Paul McGowan's late goal, extends Saints' winning run in the competition, having won it every year since 2006. It's an impressive achievement, even if the game is little more than a glorified friendly.
New signings Jon Robertson and Lewis Guy both started, with Sam Parkin and trialist goalie Grant Adam on the bench. Kenny McLean and Graham Carey were out with knocks.
The only goal arrived 10 minutes from time when young sub Thomas Reilly provided a brilliant chest down to McGowan whose shot hit the bar, the forward then beating Reilly in the race to force the rebound over the line.
Job done with no injuries or suspensions. Next up is Tuesday's game against Dumbarton.
