Motherwell 1-1 Saints

With the Steelmen seemingly cruising to third place this season taking anything from a game against them, regardless of where it is, is always a good result. However, worryingly we've now gone four games without a win - and with Rangers at home next week there's a fair chance that could edge up to five.

But let's not worry about that just now. It was an exciting game in Lanarkshire this afternoon and we could have won it, but equally we could have lost it. With Lee Mair still out there was just one change as Nigel Hasselbaink replaced Gary Teale, with a welcome return for Hugh Murray on the bench.

Both sides made fast starts to the game, Saints David van Zanten and Motherwell's Stephen Craigan the unlikely players to have the first chances, both of which were saved.

Saints looked like they had been given a penalty midway through the half when Jeroen Tesselaar went down inside the box but referee Calum Murray then noticed the flag was up for offside and overruled himself. Frustrating for the travelling fans - wonder if that would happen to the away side next week...

As the half drew to a close Higdon missed a great chance before Kenny McLean hit the bar with a ferocious effort as he looked for his fourth goal in the last couple of months.

Sadly, Higdon silenced his old fans early in the second half when he headed in Nicky Law's cross but we didn't buckle, McLean again going close with a long range effort.

Captain Jim Goodwin then showed the youngster how its done by crashing in a superb effort from 30 yards to bring us level. Annoyingly, a first half booking means he's now suspended - but at least he waited until Shuggy was fit again before crossing the threshold!

Saints refused to settle for a point, Paul McGowan missing a great chance after rounding Darren Randolph before Aaron Mooy - on for his first appearance of the season - and McLean both went close, with Craig Samson denying Jamie Murphy.

Late on McLean went close again on a lively day for the youngster but it wasn't to be and we'll need to settle for a point. No complaints on that one from me!
