Internet rumours last week suggested there would be news today but, while the board did meet, there doesn't seem to be anything to report yet. There are suggestions in the media that there will be another board meeting on Thursday, and there could be an appointment the following day or early next week.
Apparently, the powers that be at Saints believe there is no rush for a new manager, but there clearly is. We have eight players out of contract, we need to sign some more and we need to sort out a few friendlies, as well as all the other managerial duties that won't have been touched for the last few weeks.
Willie McStay appears to be the favourite for when the board get round to appointing someone, and it could be they are waiting to see what happens with Neil Lennon at Celtic. Other candidates mentioned include Tommy Wilson, Derek Adams, Jimmy Calderwood - who has ruled himself out - and, worryingly, Jim Duffy.
Interestingly, the Herald claims that neither Andy Millen or Stuart Balmer will be promoted from within to the job. Instead, they are tipped to join MacPherson at Kilmarnock, where he is unsurprisingly favourite to replace the departed Calderwood.
