There was little chance of landing Griffiths and it seems our hopes have been scuppered by Dundee having the cheek to ask for money for the striker. The Thompson deal looks dead due to Burnley changing managers.
Lennon said: “I would say we are going to be unlikely to get Steven Thomspon to St Mirren. There has been a change in manager at Turf Moor and it would seem a change in how Thompson is viewed. On top of that, financially we would struggle to cover his wages.
“As for Dundee, the goalposts have moved over Leigh Griffiths and again money is going to have to change hands there and I think our hopes have receded, although perhaps not completely.”
However, despite those setbacks, Lennon is still looking for players and reckons he could get one in before the weekend.
He added: “We were without our skipper John Potter, who was suspended and although I have other leaders on the field in Paul Gallacher and Lee Mair, we need more.
“That is apparent and I have someone else in mind and there may be an opportunity to bring that one off before Peterhead on Saturday.”
Surprisingly, there are no rumours floating around yet as to the identity of the mystery player. We are in desperate need of a striker and a centre half so hopefully it's one of them.
