The pair are currently on loan at Greenhill Road from Newcastle United and wile they have been offered a new contract by the English Premiership side, they have yet to put pen to paper. It seems Saints boss Danny Lennon is keen to keep them in Paisley and Newton has publicly said he'd be happy to stay if Newcastle let him go. However, as of yet, neither of them has been offered anything by the Buddies.
Dummett and Newton have both been terrific acquisitions - the former making his Newcastle debut in between two loan spells while the latter bagged the winner in the League Cup Final. I'd certainly be happy to see them staying on but I reckon our best bit is of getting them on loan as if they're let go a few Championship clubs will almost certainly be interested.
It'll be interesting to see what happens. Newcastle would be able to offer them more money and the chance of a shot at Premiership football while we could pretty much guarantee first team football. The Tyneside club are also willing to overlook compensation and instead look for a sell on fee, similar to the ones Celtic have for Paul McGowan and Graham Carey.
