News Round Up

Last Saturday saw Saints take on bottom club Arbroath. Despite Mark Roberts scoring inside the first 5 minutes for Saints, they could only manage a 1-1 draw. Andy Dow scored for Arbroath, which should come as no surprise to most of us.

One of the more interesting stories over the last few weeks involves Ronnie McDonald (no, not the McDonald's clown). Rumours have suggested that the former Maryhill Juniors and Clyde manager, and former Clyde chief executive, is about to join Saints at some level. One rumour said he would be the new manager, whilst the other said he would be the clubs new owner and former Clyde boss Allan Maitland would become the new manager. McDonald, who tried buying into Dumbarton earlier this season, has denied the story, and Saints chairman Stewart Gilmour has said he knows nothing of a takeover bid. Whether one of the pair is telling lies I don't know. It's almost 5 years to the day since Gilmour took over at Love Street.

On the playing side, Saints currently have former York City and Motherwell defender James Okoli training at Love Street. Okoli's cousin, Emeka Obidile, is also training at Love Street during the week as he is currently with second division side Dumbarton. Okolie can play in reserve games as a trialist, but not the first team, and Saints boss John Coughlin is looking at him with a view to signing him for next season.

Finally, Coughlin has promised major changes to the lineup for tomorrow's game, once again against Arbroath. He was furious with the performance last week, and many of the players won't be offered new contracts. He's also set a deadline to Martin Cameron by when the striker must decide if he's staying for another season or moving on.
