The midfielder wrote his name into Buddies folklore last season when he scored what turned out to be the winner against Hearts in the Hampden final. It was one of three goals he scored during a six month loan spell from the Magpies and he has now returned to the club on loan once again.
While Newton is another midfielder - something we're not exactly short of - his return is a huge boost as he offers us a bit more dig in the middle of the park. We now have someone who can win the ball back when the other team gets possession.
Fellow loan star Paul Dummett will almost certainly not be returning, while a move for Newcastle striker Adam Campbell hangs in the balance. Saints had looked favourites to land the highly rated forward but now Motherwell and St Johnstone also want to take him on loan. Hopefully Newton can convince him where he should be playing!
