Newton return possible

The midfielder was a late substitute in last night's friendly against the Magpies and received a standing ovation from the home support thanks to his winning goal in last season's League Cup Final. He hasn't featured much in Newcastle's pre-season preparations and Pardew has now revealed the ginger Geordie could be loaned to Saints once more.

Signing Newton again would be a huge boost as, aside from his famous goal, he was pretty impressive during the second half of last season. However, Millwall are also reported to be interested in him and he may opt to test himself in the Championship instead.

Fellow loan star Paul Dummett is unlikely to be coming back though, having played the most of any Newcastle player in pre-season. Pardew has described him as his find of the summer and sees him as part of the first team squad.

There's been no word yet on what's happening with Michael Richardson - who played for Saints as a trialist against Stockport last week before featuring in the Newcastle squad last night - while there are still rumours we're looking to borrow young striker Adam Campbell from the Magpies.
