Loy started his career in the Kilmarnock youth team before joining Rangers in 2006. Last season, he was loanded to Dunfermline but only managed three goals during his time at East End Park. Part of this is possibly because he was played on the wing for much of that time, however it's telling that Rangers didn't consider playing him recently despite having no fit strikers.
Loy seems to have pace and a willingness to take plkayers on - two attributes badly lacking from the team. A striker is hardly the most pressing area needing strengthened, and Loy's record last season isn't exactly inspiring. However, the departure of Dennis Wyness means a new forward was needed and as Loy is 21, it means we'll have a youngster on the bench who has a chance of making an impact.
MacPherson told the media today he is hopeful of getting another one or two players in before the transfer deadline, although admitted getting tem in before tomorrow's game against Hibs is unlikely. One player who won't be signing is former Saint Will Haining, who has been linked with a switch from Morecambe to St. Johnstone.
