O'Neill arrived last summer from Queen of the South on a part time deal and, after a good start where he scored a good number of goals, he slowed down a bit before getting himself sent off in John Coughlin's last match against Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He played up front against his old side in Januay, scoring twice, but hasn't scored, and has hardly played, since then. If he can get his scoring boots back next season then he'll do well.
Meanwhile, several of the younger players have been given one year pro contracts. These are Scott Gemmill, Gary Gillespie, Brian Gordon, Ryan McCay, David McKenna, Graham McWilliam, David Martin, Craig Molloy and Alan Muir. At least three will start tomorrow's game, which is great news. From what I've seen so far, McKenna and Muir look good, whilst Gillespie has a great surname and a great birthday :-) Most of these lads have been playing under 19 football this season and have made the final of the cup. This is impressive considering most will be playing at this level again next season!
With every announcement about young players signing up comes bad news about players who haven't made the grade. Stephen Mackay, John Paul Taylor and Champ Manager legend Bryan Taggart are all leaving, whilst Jeff Ferguson left back in March. Mirren Mad wishes them all the best.
