Jose Quitongo signed for Saints at the end of July 2000. A few days before he'd played, and scored, against Saints at Love Street as a trialist for local rivals Greenock Morton. With the departure of Junior Mendes a few days later, manager Tom Hendrie decided to sign Quitongo in what was seen as the ideal replacement. He had a good first few games for the side before being relegated to a substitutes role. his first goal came against Motherwell in a 2-1 defeat in the Scottish Cup, and his other two goals that season were also against Motherwell, in the final game at Fir Park which was a 3-3 draw, with Quitongo scoring 2.
Last season he started all but two games and whilst he impressed at first, scoring a reasonable number of goals, his style of play started to frustrate the fans. A lack of passing and shooting combined with the fact his passing and shooting was shocking when he finally decided to do it saw his performances go from reasonable to shocking. He was released at the end of the season along with other players and recently a move to Spanish side CD Badajoz fell through, and he's now signed for Kilmarnock on a short term deal, probably until the next transfer window. It's safe to say, judging by his performances at the end of last season for Saints, he won't be missed.
Anyway Mirren Mad would like to wish Jose Quitongo all the best for the future, as long as he doesnt come back to haunt us in the cups, or the league next season.
