This has obviously been in the pipeline for some time, as proven by last week's announcement that Provan Sports would no longer be stocking the kit. The move will see Saints' kits stocked in JD Sports in Paisley, Braehead and Silverburn.
The Cabrini brand is currently used by a few clubs down south, including Blackpool, but questions have been raised about the quality of the shirt they make. However, there have been constant complaints about the quality of the kits produced by current manufacturer Hummel, so that's nothing new.
According to the press release issued by the club, the move will allow us to have bespoke kits and so there can be stripes on the back with red numbers. I'm pretty sure it was said in the past that the kits Hummel made for us were bespoke - which is why they were delayed!
The move means we'll have stripes on the back of our home shirt for the first time since promotion and well be able to see the numbers as they'll be red. The away kit will be red and black, like the one worn against Ayr on Saturday.
This all seems like a fairly sensible move by the club but it'll be interesting to see just how successful it is. The club is also working on proposals over the future of merchandise, which Provans have handled superbly for over a decade.
The other main issue is what will happen to the club shop at Greenhill Road, which it seems will no longer offer any sort of kit or merchandise. One possibility is it will form an entrnace for a much mooted bar at that end of the Main Stand.
