Reid Could Sign

The player has been without a club since Hibs released him in the summer. He has been training with Saints since then and also played in a few reserve games in August.

The funds haven't been in place to make him a permanent signing but it seems there have been some changes there, possibly due to our cup run, and Saints boss Gus MacPherson could sign the youngster permanently within the next week or so.

This raises a few questions. Firstly, why are we signing a player after all the news about our poor financial news a few days ago? Clyde asked their season ticket holders to pay in last week then signed some SPL players, so it's not exactly bright to do it. Also, why are signign a player when we are effectively safe from relegation, and who will he replace in the side?

More importantly, what have Ricky Gillies and Mark Crilly done not to get into the team? MacPherson said after Tuesday's match that if Reid hadn't played, he'd have been pulling his boots back on. Why? Crilly or Gillies could easily have played there. Most odd.

Meanwhile, there is no update on another trialist, Glenafton's Stewart Boyd, who Saints are keen to have another look at.
