The match took place on Sunday 6th November, 2005 against Hamilton in Airdrie. Kick off was delayed due to the traffic. Great choice of venue SFL.
Saints dominated the first half but only found themselves 1-0 up at the break, thanks to a goal from Simon Lappin. Hamilton equalised shortly after the restart but - with just ten minutes left - David van Zanten tore down the right before crossing for John Sutton to head home.
The stadium, which was 2/3rds full of Saints fans, errupted and the cup was coming back to Paisley for the first time. Of course, we went on to win the first division, completing a double that had been achieved by Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Falkirk in the previous two seasons.
This year's cup final takes place on Sunday in Perth, with Clyde and Ross County fighting it out for the trophy. We're not there to defend it but, for once, that's a good thing.
Happy anniversary!
