Robbo goes back to the Blue Brazil

Robertson, who started off his career at Hearts, had a year left of his contract at Greenhill Road but his old side have paid a four figure sum to take him back to Fife. The 24-year-old had only made one appearance for the Saints first team this season, having picked up an injury in the warm-up for the match against Kilmarnock a fortnight ago.

Robertson only moved to Saints from the Blue Brazil last summer and had a difficult time, facing stiff competition from the likes of Kenny McLean and John McGinn for a starting slot. He had a decent run in the team towards the end of 2012 and scored a cracking goal against Brechin City in the Scottish Cup. However, he fell so far out of the picture that at the end of January he was loaned back to Cowdenbeath to get some first team action.

I did wonder if his last big chance had gone when he picked up the injury before the Killie game and that's how it has turned out, although I expected him to stay around until the end of the year. For whatever reason it just didn't work out for Jon at Paisley, which is a pity as he'd done well enough at Cowdenbeath to pick up the second division player of the season award weeks before he signed for us.

It remains to be seen whether his departure paves the way for any additional signings.
