The contract offer was on the table to him for a month after he rejected it in the off chance that he changed his mind, but he decided not to as he wanted to try his luck down south. He'll be on trial with Orient for the next few weeks as he tries to win himself a new deal.
Russell was an inconsistent striker during his two years with Saints. He'd often have a good game or two followed by some absolute howlers. His scoring rate was none too impressive, though he did show signs of forming a good partnership with Stewart Kean towards the end of last season.
It will be interesting to see whether Leyton Orient, or another English club, sign the former Hamilton player as most Saints fans agree that he would struggle in the English league.
