Russell, however, feels that there was nothing wrong with what he did, saying after the game: "I don't give a s**t if Soutar plays for Scotland or Brazil, he shouldn't go in with his feet up. It seemed to be a 50-50 between us. I tried to win the ball but unfortunately hurt myself and the goalie. There's no way I'd ever pull out of a challenge just because he's got a Scotland game next week.
"Later on tonight I might have more compassion for Derek's injury but right now I've none whatsoever. Goalkeepers are defended more. They go in with their feet and expect you to jump over them.
Russell wasn't impressed with the fact he had a shot which was over the line but not given as a goal, adding: "I only had one chance and from what I can see it was in. It was well over the line and that's probably why I am so p****d off at the moment. No disrepect to Brechin but they're bottom of the league and down to ten men. We should be hammering them.
Finally, Russell gave his view on the kick from Brechin's kevin McLeish which saw the Brechin man red carded: "I didn't feel the kick from the boy who got sent off so it was stupid on his part."
I agree with virtually everything Russell says. Goalies do get too much protection, he had every right to go for the ball, it was a goal and we should have hammered Brechin.
