Russell was offered a one year contract at Saints towards the end of last season, but decided to turn it down and try his luck down south. After failing to win a contract at Leyton Orient, he had a trial at Macclesfield and was given a one year deal. However, due to their poor start to the season, Russell finds himself on the transfer list with three other players.
I have no sympathy for Russell. He left for more money and we had to put up with one of his mates (or even him) on some Saints messageboards telling us how wonderful he was and how we'd miss him. I would take John Sutton over him any day and laughed at today's news. Russell could play well when he wanted but too often was poor, and it seems that Macclesfield fans have found that out as well.
Meanwhile, former Saint Junior Mendes has joined Northampton Town on a month long loan spell from Huddersfield Town.
