Shiels damaged one of his eyes as a child, causing him to lose most of the sight in it, and a few years ago had it removed due to the increasing levels of pain it was causing him. As a result, he now has a glass eye.
Shiels revealed after Saturday's game he'd been given abuse about this, although did reveal that it happens to him at other grounds. Nonetheless, it's a disgraceful thing to have happen to him and whoever was responsible should be ashamed of themselves.
Hopefully, the apology - which can be seen on The Official St. Mirren Website - is the first step in a process that will see the club take strong action against the individuals behind this sick abuse.
