Mulligan is a tall forward who scored three goals during a loan spell with Rushden and Diamonds last season. He only made one appearance for Wolves and it seems that United manager Neil Warnock is keen to get the Irishman some more first team experience.
It is unknown how long any loan deal would last for but it would probably be for the entire season.
Meanwhile, Saints are being linked with a loan move for Millwall's John Sutton, who has had successful spells with Raith Rovers and Dundee in the last few years. Either player could be just what we're looking for.
