Saints tried to sign Thomson - who signed for the English League One side from Falkirk last January - at the start of the season, but the move failed to come off. Whether that was down to the club or the player is anyone's guess, although as Thomson left Falkirk for family reasons it could be the latter.
Thomson, who has also played for Crystal Palace and Peterborough, can supposedly play on the right as well as in the centre of midfield. We desperately need a right winger and, as the Brighton website uses words such as "industrial" to describe Thomson he could well fit the bill.
Thomson has been a regular starter for Brighton this season and they may not be willing to let him leave - while the player himself could still have the same family problems. It'll be interesting to see how this pans out.
The Scot is supposedly one of three players we're currently trying to sign, with one of the others believed to be a striker.
