The news about former St. Johnstone player Hay being told he is not wanted isn't that much of a surprise. The striker went off injured in Thursday's friendly against Queen's Park and failed to feature at Stenhousemuir on Saturday. Hay's spell in Perth was plagued by injury and it was a bit of a surprise when it was announced last week that he was on trial.
The decision to tell One to go is, however, a surprise as it was expected that the big Frenchman would sign this week. In my view One was unfit against Dumbarton, couldn't head, had no pace and was only useful for nuisance value. In general he wasn't very good and it seems that Saints boss Gus MacPherson has the same opinion.
This leaves Saints with no trialists at present and only one decent striker in the shape of Stewart Kean. MacPherson said in the press yesterday that he hopes to have another three or four players in before the season starts (with the James Grady rumours growing ever stronger). Let's hope he gets them in soon and at least two are strikers.
