Ferguson is available on a free transfer after being released by Everton at the end of last season. However, it is believed that he wanted around £1million to play for Saints, which works out at around £20,000 a week for a one year deal. In comparison, many Saints players will only receive £20k for the season before win bonuses are taken into account.
Manager Gus MacPherson revealed on Radio Clyde that the former Scotland international is the sort of player Saints are after as he's an experienced striker (the fact that he's also a nutter was surprisingly not mentioned). An experienced frontman and a left back remain MacPherson's priorities before the transfer window shuts at the end of August.
Meanwhile, it looks unlikely that Chris Sutton will be making an appearance at Love Street anytime soon. Someone claimed the former Celtic striker was training with Saints, which is possible as he's clubless and his brother plays for us. However, John has now said it's unlikely that the lesser talented brother will sign for us, and if he was he'd have known about it by now
Fair play to whoever started that story as you managed to get it picked up by the PDE!
It's getting just like the last time. I wonder which ageing former internationalist striker we'll next be linked with?
