With Craig Hinchcliffe ruled out for the rest of the season, Saints are relying on Chris Smith and Danny McColgan. If one gets injured, as McColgan was a few weeks ago, then the club is in the situation where there is no sub keeper. With McColgan having no first team experience, the problem of Smith getting injured is not one worth thinking about.
If the move had gone through, McGovern would have signed on loan when the transfer window opened at the start of January. However, for whatever reason, Celtic weren't willing to let him go.
MacPherson said: "We enquired about Michael but Celtic weren't interested. Now we'll probably wait until January to bring someone in because we do need cover."
