This is a bit strange considering that Celtic are fairly desperate for a left back and seem to have one who is a product of their apparently superb youth system.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson is keen to play with a 4-4-2 in the SPL, and has made signing a left back a priority to allow him to do this. Trialist Mark Innes got injured, whilst a Spaniard was deemed not good enough.
MacPherson confirmed to Radio Clyde that he has made an inquiry for Mulgrew, who scored twice whilst with Dundee United last season. It is unknown if he wants to sign the Scot permanently or on loan, but if any deal is concluded before the weekend it's unlikely he'll play on Saturday as we're going to Parkhead!
