When Renfrewshire Council gave planning permission for a new stadium on Greenhill Road and a supermarket on Love Street last month, the decisions had to be referred to the Scottish Executive because they went against the local plan. The Executive then had 28 days to call a public enquiry.
Most people had thought that this would be 28 days from when the decision was made (May 24th) but it seems that it is 28 days from when the Executive receive the documents, meaning a new date of the 4th of July for them to call an enquiry. If they don't call an enquiry by then, then they can't even if they want to.
A public enquiry into the decisions could delay things by up to a year, so hopefully it won't. One theory on the web is that they can only call an inquiry into the decision to let a stadium be built in Ferguslie, something that is extremely unlikely.
The Executive can force an enquiry anytime between now and the fourth of July. Let's hope that in this case no news is good news.
