Burke didn't travel to Austria with the team but has obviously done enough in training to win himself a two year deal. It is the third time Saints boss Gus MacPherson has tried to bring him to Love Street, as he has made attempts in both the previous two summers but been unsuccessful.
Burke scored nineteen goals in his two years at Ross County, and scored sixteen goals in his season with Queen of the South. He has also scored a decent number of goals with some other lower league clubs, such as Berwick Rangers and Clydebank. He has also had a spell with Falkirk.
Burke started his career with Kilmarnock, where he would have played alongside Gus, but failed to make the grade. He can play up front or out wide.
It will be interesting to see if this is our last signing in the striking department as most Saints fans will no doubt be unimpressed if Burke is the only addition to the strike force for our campaign in the top flight. He is an experienced striker, but he hasn't played at this level for years and wasn't that impressive when he did.
It will also be interesting to see if Burke's fitness will be an issue, considering he struggles to last more than 70 minutes and apparently smokes. On the plus side, I felt he was Ross County's best player against us (despite missing a penalty) on the three occasions I saw them last season, certainly better than the much hailed John Rankin.
