Saints beat off competition from Leeds United to capture Camara, who was available on a free transfer after recently being released by Derby, whom he'd been with for two-and-a-half years. During that time he had loan spells with Norwich and Blackpool and this season was part of the side that recorded a famous victory over Manchester United.
He has been capped 79 times for Guinea - making him the most capped player in the club's history - and has also spent time with Wolves, Burnley and, most notably for Scottish folk, Celtic. He wasn't a big success at Parkhead and was only there for a season, so it'll be interesting to see if he does any better north of the border this time around.
We need a leftback and Camara fits that bill. Now all that remains to be seen is if he is up to the job. The deal he has signed is until the end of the season - with an option for that to be extended until the end of next season. This suggests we might not be paying over the odds for him.
The Camara deal comes after Saints failed to land Ian harte last week, despite the defender agreeing to sign. Fortunately, Camara has signed his contract and only international clearance will stop him from playing on Saturday. SFA rules mean he cannot play against Motherwell in the cup on Thursday.
