Saints take Harte

With Franco Miranda injured and Steven Robb a natural left winger, Saints are likely to be without a natural leftback for the next month or so. Attempts to solve that on deadline day failed and it looked like that would be the end of the matter - until today.

Harte, who was a key part of the Leeds team of the late 1990s and early 2000s that did so well at home and abroad, had his contract with Blackpool terminated on Monday. According to his agent, Willie McKay, Saints boss Gus MacPherson was on the phone to him almost immediately. It also seems money is not the issue as Harte has earned enough from his time with Leeds, Sunderland, Levante and Blackpool.

If Harte stays fit he could prove to be a great capture. His deliver into the box is superb and we might start to look a little dangerous from set pieces. The main concern is that he's only played 12 games in the last 18 months, although he did play in Blackpool's last five matches.

Harte has been capped 64 times for the Republic of Ireland, although the last of those caps came two years ago. He should be available for Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Motherwell.
