Saints try to move Killie game

New Year's Day fixtures - particularly against Morton - used to be a common and attractive proposition for us on the few occasions they beat the weather. However, aside from a mental trip to Inverness a few years ago, they seemed to have died out. With New Year's Day being a Saturday in 2011, it looked like it would return. The choice of Kilmarnock as the opposition was a rare piece of common sense from the SPL.

However, according to Radio Scotland yesterday, it seems Saints are trying to move the game and have Kilmarnock's backing. They claim the lack of public transport is an issue - despite Kilmarnock not being that far - and that they will miss out on income through poor corporate hospitality sales. The fact that some fans have to work on January 3 and would miss a 3pm kick-off doesn't seem relevant.

While I am not one of those (which is down to pure good luck) I cannot agree with this move. Both clubs knew when the fixtures were released it was down for New Year's Day and should have tried to get this changed months ago, not a few weeks before the game.
