There is however, a player of similar build. One who has a similar habit (oh dear, poor choice possibly) of scoring against Morton. His name? Barry Lavety.
Basher's record against the soapless and hopeless is almost as good as Yards, though not quite. It's his first appearance at Love Street for over three years, and he'll be sure of a warm reception from the Saints fans, and a torrent of abuse from the stinky ones in the Caley Stand.
Basher is fit(ish) and will probably start the game. Robert Dunn is also fit and should play for Saints for the first time, whilst trialists Ross Currie and Dougie Ramsay will get another chance to win a contract. There will also be an unknown midfielder starting. No one knows who he is (though some ex Hearts bloke has been rumoured) so it'll be interesting to see who he is.
Eddie Annand, David Jack, Kevin Twaddle, Mark Dempsie, John O'Neill and Paul McKnight (shocker!) are all out injured. It's the first chance for the majority of Saints fans to see their new players in action, and lets hope they can give us a win.
Morton have improved their squad over the summer, adding Stewart Greacen, Paul Walker and Peter Weatherstone to their squad as they try for back to back promotions. They are near enough the only SFL club paying transfer fees as their millionaire chairman tries to bring them back to division 1.
It should be a good game, lets hope Saints are the ones lifting the cup at full time.
