Both Smith and Bell are out of contract at their respective clubs and therefore the possiiblity of them taking over from Gallacher - who is set to join Dunfermline later this week - is a real possibility.
Smith (not to be confused with the former Motherwell and Hibs goalie of the same name) signed for the Saintees two years ago and has played half their league games since then. He started off his career at Kilmarnock and also had a spell at Rangers, although he played just once. To be honest I can't remember much about him, but something about him being a bad goalie sticks in my head.
That certainly cannot be said of Bell. He has spent his entire career at Rugby Park - save for a few loan spells - and was exceptional in the first half of the season. However, his refusal to sign a new contract saw him dropped - despite the fact he had been capped for Scotland. He would be a superb signing, but with a number of English clubs chasing him it is extremely unlikely he would move to Paisley.
A third keeper is also being looked at, with suggestions it is Hibs' Mark Brown or former Buddie Alan Combe, who hasn't played in over a year.
