Yesterday's Sunday Mail had a small interview with club captain Jamie McGowan who said "We were pretty aggrieved about the penalty. One of the Alloa boys just stuck out a leg and the ball bounced off Ricky's knee and on to his hand. There's no way it was deliberate and I told the ref that. He said `watch it on telly and you will see it was'. TV might prove me wrong and I'll fall flat on my face - but we'll see."
Don't worry Jamie as you were totally correct, as everyone at the ground knew at the time. Even Scotsport's shoddy coverage couldn't disguise the fact that it was ball to hand, if it even touched his hand, and therefore not deliberate handball, not a penalty and not a sending off. Every match report I've read says it was a dodgy penalty, even on Scotsport they said so. There was hardly any appeal from Alloa players, and most fans of other clubs who've seen it said it wasn't a penalty. What does that tell you John Underhill? You've just made a complete and utter tosser out of yourself, thats what.
Whether Saints will appeal or not is unknown. Had this been to the Old Firm the press would have raged about it. Hopefully Saints will appeal to have this ridiculous decision overturned.
