van Zanten is out of contract in the summer and is rumoured to have turned down the offer of a new deal at Love Street. Many people believe that Saints boss Gus MacPherson's comments after the recent defeat at the hands of Falkirk about players believing they are better than they are were aimed at the former Celtic player as a result of his desire to leave.
January looks the likely time for such a move, meaning Saints would probably get a bit of money for him. It will be the second January running we've lost a key player, as this year we lost Simon Lappin to Norwich City. The difference this time is that we have a decent replacement in the shape of Alan Reid.
van Zanten has been at Love Street since leaving Celtic in 2003 and was a vital part of the double winning side in 2005/06, crossing the ball for John Sutton's winner in the Challenge Cup final.
