Tomorrow will be the third anniversary of a consortium of Saints directors putting a 52 per cent controlling share interest in the club up for sale. While the fans are understandably frustrated that things are still dragging on, it's fair to say the consortium will be the most annoyed. However, things may now finally be coming to a head.
There has been talk for some time that a Scottish businessman based in America is lining up a bid and this morning the Paisley Daily Express named him as Dave Wares, a Dundee United supporter from St Andrews who is now based in Texas. The full article can be read online at http://www.paisleydailyexpress.co.uk/2012/09/06/the-us-bid-for-saints-87085-31779086/ It's worth a look.
Wares was involved in creating a company called Display Products Technology in the mid 1990s - a firm dealing in fixing computer monitors. It fared well, but in 2002 it needed an £8million cash injection from 3i. A month later Wares, as well as the other founding directors, left and a few years down the line the company went into administration.
Wares has since moved to the United States. At the moment he is head of a firm that is similar to his old one, although this time around they fix iPods and the like. He also helped with some fancy new charcoal for barbeques.
There isn't much sign that he has money to spend on buying a football club - and there's no clear explanation for why he would want to buy this one. It may be he is merely fronting a bid for investors, who do have money to spend. However, until he comes clean with his plans it's hard to say what's going on.
Meanwhile, 10000Hours have finally had a response to the bid they submitted a couple of weeks ago. They have been asked to alter two particular clauses and put in another bid, which they say they hope to do tomorrow.
Rumours continue that at least one other bidder is still interested so, regardless of which party eventually gains control, let's hope this whole saga is over sooner rather than later.
