Takeover hopefuls remain confident

Last updated : 17 March 2012 By Stuart Gillespie

News of the bid - which also involves McGeoch's business partner Paul Davies - emerged last September and there haven't been many developments since then. The bid is believed to involve some sort of fan control in the future.

Today's Scottish Sun doesn't add a great deal, with McGeoch saying: "We remain optimistic a deal can be reached with the current board." The main reason for the article is the Rangers link - apparently McGeoch and co were using the same lawyers who helped Craig Whyte take control at Ibrox. Unsurprisingly, they've been binned.

It's been pretty quiet on the takeover bid recently with nothing to report from the 10000Hours Community Interest Company, led by Richard Atkinson - another Saints director. They announced a change to a fans' co-operative at the end of last year after a funding bid bailed but there have been no updates in the last few month. The 10000Hours Twitter feed @10000hourslive - has come to life in the last few days so maybe there will be updates soon.

A group of current Saints directors - not including McGeoch - put a 52 per cent controlling share in the club up for sale in September 2009. Atkinson and Chris Stewart were voted onto the board the following summer to allow them to investigate the CIC route. It's now more than two years since the shares were put up for sale so I don't expect a quick conclusion.

As an aside, news of the McGeoch deal originally broke in The Scottish Sun the last time we were due to play St Johnstone at home!
