Since Thursday, 10000hours - the community interest company looking to buy a 52 per cent controlling stake in the club - have been gathering details of fans willing to contribute £10 a month. They had originally been looking for 300, but the figure currently stands at 403. As a result, the CIC will start firming up these commitments next week.
Saints director Richard Atkinson, who is spearheading the bid, said: "We’ve got two more meetings next week after which it’s going to happen. The people who have pledged will need to come along and sign on the dotted line and actually constitute this thing.
“There are three elements – the members, the selling consortium and the funders – and it looks like the members’ part will be the first one that’s there. In a couple of weeks it looks like we will be starting things."
The money generated will be used to pay off loans of around £1.2million needed to buy the shares. As well as individual memberships, companies can sign up for £10,000 a year, with community groups joining in for £500 a year. There are various benefits at each level.
