Let's start at the beginning. Saints signed Robertson, a former QPR youth player, at the start of 2001/02. He made his debut against Arbroath in 2002, and even then there were rumours of interest from the likes of Spurs and Blackburn. He wasn't bad when he played in 01/02, but the next season he was awful when Robertson played. With interest in February that Blackburn and other Premiership clubs were interested, most Saints fans were confused. When it came to the summer, Robertson refused the new deal Saints offered him (god knows why we did) and was released. The fun starts here.
Over the summer he was on trial at Crewe Alexandra but no move was apparent. For some bizarre reason, Celtic then offered him a trial. Now, Magnus Hedman and Rab Douglas may not be very good, but they are ten times better than Robertson. Apparently he was to play in their youth/under 21 side. Anyway, they offered him a 2 month contract. Which he refused, claiming he needed longer than that. Muppet.
A few weeks later he turned out for Dumbarton as a trialist, and they planned to sign him until the transfer window in January when he was going on trial at Southampton. How he managed to get a trial there is anyones guess, although they did take the similarly over rated Sergei Baltacha on trial from us a few years ago. The fact that he'd probably have earned more at Sellick for the two months than at Dumbarton is irrelevant :-)
Anyway, after the Dumbarton manager waited for a few days/weeks to sign Robertson, he realised the move wasn't happening and terminated the offer. Robertson is now being linked with a trial with Burnley in England. Will he take it or go off looking for more work? And why can't he go on trial at SOuthampton now? He was released before the window closed!
Of course, the fact that Robertson is being linked with clubs who are far too good for him whilst having his dad as his agent is just coincidence.........
