Saints boss Gus MacPherson hinted last week that one player would definitely be coming in during January and that we were light in midfield. Thomson's arrival had been rumoured a few weeks ago so it is no surprise that he has now agreed to join the club.
Falkirk fans seem to speak quite highly of Thomson, who is 30, and it seems he is like Gary Mason only a bit more offensive. The strange thing about the move is Thomson left the Bairns a year ago, citing personal reasons for his return to England. Now he's coming back to Scotland for family reasons!
The box-to-box midfielder has been a regular for Brighton this season and will hopefully be a good signing. It's the second year running we've brought in a player before the window opens, having signed Andy Dorman in late 2007. Hopefully this isn't the end of the signings as we could probably do with another few players.
