Over the weekend it was announced that the Saints side that lifted the Scottish Cup in 1959 will be invited along to this year's cup final. It is a new idea by the SFA's Gordon Smith, where the remaining members of the winning side from 50 years ago will be paraded in front of the current generation of supporters. It's a great idea - although will no doubt cause problems when it's an Old Firm winner from the past.
Interestingly, the team we beat in 1959 was Aberdeen - and there's still a possibility we could get Aberdeen in the final! What better tribute than to make it to the final and then follow in the footsteps of those very legends? If you want another omen, just two sides have beaten both halves of the Old Firm on their way to lifting the trophy - and one was Saints in 1926. It was Rangers we beat in the semis...
Meanwhile, the Saints of today are currently enjoying the sun in Spain. As we don't have a game this weekend, the club agreed for the first team squad to fly off for a training camp in some warmer weather. If the last few days are anything to go by, this was a good move. This was all arranged before Saturday's drama and I'm sure the win over Celtic has allowed the players to enjoy it even more.
