It is believed that Fitzpatrick, whose Saints appearance record was only passed last season by Hugh Murray, would be a figurehead for the consortium looking to buy the club. They are aiming to make Saints a more community-based outfit and Fitzpatrick's background in coaching and working with youngsters would make him an ideal fit.
The 1987 Scottish Cup winner was in the press leading up to our League Cup Final appearance and is popular with Saints fans due to his positive attitude and the affection he has for the club. His return would go down well with fans and would certainly lift the mood around the place.
Other press reports today say there are between two and five parties interested in buying the club, while some of the current directors could hang around for a few years as part of a hand over process. Internet messageboards claim an announcement is imminent, with June 6 suggested as a possible date, but it's very much a case of believing it when it happens as far as I'm concerned.
