Various Liberal Democrats have decided to get involved (seeing as the deal was done with Labour councillors) and have talked in the press about the local community being upset about the whole thing.
They have also started posting on the forums at www.blackandwhitearmy.com which is definitely worth a look as there is a fair bit of interesting stuff on the relevant thread (which isn't hard to find).
