Barry - nicknamed Trigger - made his debut for the club he supported in the early part of 1992/93 as a striker but was quickly moved back into defence by manager Jimmy Bone. He was a mainstay of the team over the next decade, helping the club avoid relegation to the second division with a fine performance against Stirling in 1998.
His finest season, like so many of our players, was 1999/2000. A rock at the back, he also scored winning goals against Morton and Livingston. He also headed home the third goal against Raith Rovers when we clinched the title, getting to live the dream of the thousands of fans on the North Bank.
Due to the club's financial circumstances, Barry left for Kilmarnock in 2002. He was there for two years before joining Ayr United and eventually moved into junior football with Irvine Meadow in 2006. His final season turned out to be a successful one as Medda won the Super League and three trophies.
Barry's final season at Saints was his testimonial year, although sadly there was never a game to honour his services. It is a shame he only had three years in the SPL. As someone who started going to games in the late 1980s but can only remember games from around 1992 onwards, Barry would easily be in my team of Saints players I'd seen in action.
All the best Barry - enjoy your retirement.
