It was, in truth, a terrible game. Kirk Broadfoot put us in front in the first half with a scrappy goal and, with Queen of the South 2-0 up on nearest challengers St. Johnstone - down to ten men - things looked good.
However, this is St. Mirren. St. Johnstone drew level by half time and Dundee scored early in the second half. If results stayed the same then we'd still be champions, but it was all a bit too close for comfort.
Fortunately things took a turn for the better. Kevin James scored a comical own goal at Palmerston to give Queens a 3-2 lead and - with "Championees" einging around Love Street - Billy Mehmet scored his first Saints goal to get the party well and truely under way.
Many of the key players from that season - such as Broadfoot, Sutton and Adam - have all gone, while some - Murray, Potter and Smith - are still here.
A fantastic day - the Saints had returned.
