Everyone is out of contract in the summer, including the management staff, so it seems the board are starting to renew the contracts earlier than usual so that players don't wander away. van Zanten has done well since signing from Celtic in the summer of 2002, and scored two vital goals against Ayr United last April.
Saints boss Gus MacPherson said: "David has performed really well and deserves the new deal he has been offered. I'm delighted to have him signed up as he has shown a good level of consistency and a willingness to level (sic). He should be an asset for the club."
Let's hope David is the first of many to sign a new deal.
