Usually the club only holds one annual dinner at the end of the season but due to the high demand - sparked by our League Cup win - they held one on Sunday and one on Monday.
van Zanten was a member of the League Cup winning side and received his honour on Sunday night. The defender made his Saints debut in 2003 after joining from Celtic and was part of the team that won both the League Challenge Cup and first division in the 2005/06 season. He left for Hibs in 2008 but returned to Paisley two years later and has been a regular starter at rightback. He also scored against Dundee United this season, meaning he avoided an end of season charity forefit that would have seen him singing at Greenhill Road in a mankini if he went through the campaign without managing a goal!
Finding the back of the net was never a problem for Lavety. The big forward came through the youth system to establish himself in the first team in 1992, scoring 19 goals in the first division. Like Vanzy he had a few years at Hibs before returning to Paisley in 1999, helping the club win the first division with another goal filled season. Injury problems saw him let go in the summer before he returned once more three years later. Again he was only at Love Street for a season before leaving once more, this time for good. He was inducted on Monday night with current striker Steven Thompson - who grew up just down the road from Basher in Houston - doing the honours.
Both players are fully deserving of their place and I'm particularly delighted to see Basher being inducted. He was my first real Saints hero when I was growing up and his induction is long overdue.
