Rumours had been around for months about moves to Swansea or other clubs in the Championship and League One, while rumours about moves to Scottish clubs such as Aberdeen emerged more recently. The Hibs rumour was the last to surface - with the Easter Road side also supposedly looking at fellow Saints fullback Franco Miranda - and it has proven to be true. van Zanten will now be reunited with Mixu Paatelainen, who played for Saints in 2004. His likely departure was known about for some time, with Saints pre-empting the move by signing Jack Ross from Falkirk last week.
Vanzy was released by Celtic in 2003 and appeared against Saints in a trialist team. He was then offered a trial at Love Street and impressed enough to earn a contract. He became a regular on the right side of the team and was keen to get forward, scoring some important - and sometimes spectacular. Ironically, his only SPL goal to date came against Hibs in 2006. With van Zanten currently injured, it is likely he has played his last game in a Saints shirt.
During his time here he helped the club win the first division and the League Challenge Cup as well as avoid relegation from the SPL. He's been a major feature over the last few years and a move to Hibs is a step up. All the best Vanzy - just as long as you don't play well against us in the future.
With Mark Corcoran another one already on his way, attention now turns to who'll be next out the exit door. Richard Brittain, Stewart Kean, Franco Miranda and Ian Maxwell are just some of the players thought to be close to either agreeing pre-contract agreements with other clubs or being released.
