On Friday, chairman Stewart Gilmour was quoted in the press claiming there was no managerial short list, but the board was meeting on a weekly basis. He went on to say: "We are scheduled to meet again in the middle of next week and, hopefully, we will have some news then." If internet rumours are anything to go by, this meeting is on Tuesday.
However, if we are to believe the chairman's claims, there is no shortlist, therefore there can have been no interviews and no compensation agreed if someone is at a club already. That points to either Stuart Balmer getting the job or something not quite being correct. Apparently, two board members have been on holiday but recently returned, again making it unlikely that things are too far advanced - although the rest of the board could have been acting in their absence.
For the record, the speculation on the forums seems to suggest it's down to Balmer, Rangers' Tommy Wilson (who played for Saints in the 1987 Scottish Cup final) and Celtic's Willie McStay. Jimmy Calderwood, Andy Millen and Billy Stark are all thought to be out of the running.
Again, going by rumours, a takeover form the Maxi Group is also nearing completion and could also be announced this week, suggesting Tuesday's meeting could be to go through the final few things for that to be completed - although again, how far along things can be if folk have been on holiday is anyone's guess.
As I said yesterday, it's promises to be an interesting week. Keep checking Mirren Mad's messageboard for news as I'm unable to update the main site while at work.
